What is Sacroiliitis?

Have you struggled with pain in your pelvis or lower back? People often assume the cause is sciatica, but it might also be sacroiliitis. Cleary Family Chiropractic provides lots of non-addictive treatments for this kind of joint inflammation, but eliminating the pain may require the patient to make lifestyle changes and undergo physiotherapy. The sacroiliac joints are where the sacrum, one of the structures of the lower spine, connects with the ilium, the top of the pelvis. This region bears a lot of weight, and the sacroiliac joint is subject to wear and tear. When sacroiliac joint dysfunction causes inflammation, the patient may feel pain as far as their lower back and the front of their thigh. It is often worse when the patient has been standing or lying down for a long time. Sacroiliac joint dysfunction is not the only thing that can cause inflammation, but it is the most common, and can result from cartilage degeneration or a recent traumatic injury or childbirth. Bones of the Spine

The spine is where nerves from the rest of the body converge and it is highly complex. At Cleary Family Chiropractic in Woodstock, we make minimally invasive adjustments to the spinal column that can relieve musculoskeletal pain and functional problems, but we also believe a patient’s mindset is a core component of their health. To get our patients more comfortable with chiropractic care, we thought it would be good for them to become more familiar with the spine’s anatomy. Our backbones are actually made up of dozens of different bones called vertebrae. Most of them can move somewhat independently. They enclose the spinal cord, which is the bundle of nerves stretching from the brain to the pelvis, are separated from each other by spongy discs in front, and are joined together by facet joints in back. The first seven vertebrae, starting from the top, are the cervical vertebrae, or neck bones. The topmost one is called the “atlas” and moves the head up and down, while the second one, th

Chiropractic Care for Athletes

For years, sports injuries have been treated with the use of painkillers and surgery. When athletes are given painkillers for injuries they are putting a band-aid on the issue instead of fixing it. While surgery is necessary in certain cases, it isn’t always the best option and can actually lead to re-injury. Painkillers can be addictive, which is why Dr. Matthew Cleary encourages athletes to seek chiropractic care for injuries and injury prevention. At Cleary Family Chiropractic, we use all natural methods of spinal manipulation and physical therapy techniques to treat injuries. The benefit of chiropractic care versus medical care is we treat the entire body for injuries rather than just targeting one specific area. Your body works together to function and everything is aligned as one, which is why it is important to treat the entire body. Our chiropractic methods are also preventive. Our focus is to help keep you in the game and off of the sidelines with an injury.  If you are feelin
